Man’s relationship with nature, my reality

Having got a first at the end of my BA (Hons) Fine Art Practice degree, there has been a bit of a come down and some procrastination in my practice, I have continued to be in nature and even photograph nature but actually producing what I consider to be my work hasn't happened until now.

I have continued to think about man's relationship with nature and the idea that nature is our secondary reality and towns and cities our primary reality. As someone who sees nature as very important I began to question what my reality of nature is. I have begun by looking at my home and how nature features in my everyday life.

Nature is part of my everyday life, even when I am inside my house. I can see a tree, a bush or some kind of plant from every window of my home. Most windows have an immediate view of nature framed by the window, but I also find that for some of the windows I position myself so that my view is nature, or just the most pleasing view of the nature outside.

My starting point is taking photos of my windows and the nature beyond, not the view from the window, but the view from inside, what it's like to kind of live alongside nature. Then I have painted over the interior of the house in black acrylic.

The black propels nature out of the painting, showing the importance of nature, but it seems to be a very loaded colour, it's so strong and there are so many bad connotations with black. It also completely hides what is also there, the other aspect of this relationship with nature, the life that goes on in the room, in the house. I'll try white acrylic next.
