I'm now deciding which photographs I want to enlarge and use for my large paintings. Just to get an idea if they work or not, I quickly painted over some A4 and A3 printouts of photos taken in Rome, Battle (my home town) and Stratford Upon Avon. Still thinking about how man's relationship with nature, I'm looking to create works which explore the idea that we have an inherent connection with nature and not only go out into the country to experience it but also bring it to us in towns, cities and gardens. The aesthetic needs to support this concept.
I'm gathering photos that I take of all the little specimens of nature I see in towns I visit, and on on my walks in the woods and fields near my home. When you think about the way we treat nature it can seem quite perverse and pretty amusing. I'm still blanking out everything in the background, selecting what appeals to me and omitting the rest.
