Painting not blanking

02/05/2016

A new painting of 'The Old Bakehouse', this painting is 40x60". I don't feel like I am blanking out the rest of the image so much as painting over the rest of the image, making marks, enjoying the paint. The whole reason for using paint rather than photoshopping out the rest of the photograph, the parts that I regard as less important than the subject, is so that I can paint and I am doing.  The marks are almost organic, not leaves, not roots, but marks which grow out from around the subject.

I've also made a new painting using the tree of heaven image, a painting showing a plant I saw on the way to the woods, representing how we go into the countryside to experience nature. The painting above shows who we bring nature to us.   Both paintings represent the way I see nature, focusing, isolating and selecting something special that catches my eye, the for that moment the rest is obsolete,   unimportant, not needed.
